From the review:
"... The mexican guitarist Santiago Lascurain brings a number of these absolute masterpieces out on this cd. Certainly a bold act, since the works are available on many recordings. Still, (he) knows how to make an extraordinarily valuable CD with them. He is able, with sharp interpretations which at moments bring new light on the works, to keep the attention tight (…) The absolute climax here is Britten's Nocturnal."
Klassieke Zaken (The Netherlands)
Album contains the most famous and epic piece that Britten wrote for the guitar – Nocturnal after John Dowland Op. 70. It is hard to find a better performer for this music – Santiago Lascurain`s research presentation on “Nocturnal” earned him a prize at his graduation from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Some say, that he can also play this piece in total darkness, from the end to the beginning.
Beside these incredible, almost 20-minute long reverse variations on a renaissance theme, Santiago has recorded also the 20th century classics – Falla, Ponce, Martin and Ginastera.
The sound has been recorded by Peter Arts, one of the best Dutch sound engineers.
